Inflatable pipe plug for welding purge applications Huntingdon Fusion Techniques
150 mm - 900 mm (6" - 36")
Heat Resistant Pipe Purging Systems for pre-heated pipe welds.
When pre-heated ferric steel alloy pipe joints typically (5% CrMo) and some other types of steel and alloys are welded, particularly for high pressure pipework or for low hydrogen requirements, argon purging at the back of the weld is required. This is to eliminate the risk of coking and oxidation, leading to notching and eventual stress cracking under pressure.
After many years of trials and development, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Limited has launched a range of variable diameter pipe purging systems.
Description
One model is available for each internal diameter. Each one is variable by approximately +0mm -12mm.
Using the well tried and proven Argweld® Pipe Purging System, the heat resistant version is totally covered in a special heat resistant material, which will withstand temperatures of up to 300 degrees C (572 degrees F) for 24 hours.
Operation
The system is connected to an argon hose and inserted into the pipe to be welded.
The spinal connection hose is long enough for the dams to sit at the outer edge of the pre-heated zone.
After positioning the system the argon is opened, the dams inflated to size and the interspace purged.
The purge will remain on during pre-heat and welding. It is advised for the removal of the systems prior to post-weld heat treatment.
In trials, the devices have performed many welds under these conditions.
