Remote Mounted Capillary Thermometers are used to
measure temperature in harsh environments. The
operating principle of these thermometers is that the
temperature of the process determines the pressure of
the inert gas in the filled spiral (bourdon) tube system of
the instrument. Deflection of the spiral tube will move
the attached pointer, and as result, the process
temperature will be indicated on the dial. For
maximum accuracy on the low range units, the effects
of ambient temperature is compensated by a bimetallic
element fitted between the spiral tube and the
movement.
