Neutron detector INEL

This detector is composed by several tubes (8, 16 or 32 tubes for instance), which are able to be linked. In order to build very large detection surface. Each tube is able to detect neutrons by localization.
The second dimension is given by the index of the tube. Then, resolution perpendicular to the tube is given by its diameter or the how they are positionned to each other.

In each tubes, the localization is done on 8 bits; maximum of resolution is 1/256th of the tube length, for a given pressure in He3 and CF4.

These detectors are robuste, and are able to accept high counting rate (50kHz per tubes). They are versatile, and by using this technics, high detection surface can be built (several square meters).

These detector woks in proportionnal mode; energy discrimination is possible, and then background due to gamma ray can be decreased.
