The CAN (Control Area Network) serial bus with multi-master capabilities was originally developed for use in automobiles with data rates up to 1Mbps as defined by the ISO 11898 International Standard. Because of its ability to function in harsh automotive environment, CAN has found its way into different applications within modern vehicles, like Body, Safety and Powertrain.

Dependant on the respective vehicle network architecture and the related ECU supply path, different HS CAN transceivers will be used in the electrical design in order to allow minimization of the current consumption and therefore reduction of the CO² emissions.
