Currently the typical systems used to lubricate industrial chains are:
Drip Feed Applications - Which are both unreliable and erratic

With this particular method of application the chain is also often over lubricated, if a lubrication maintenance schedule actually takes place at all, however often the film of lubricant is not maintained in-between lubrication cycles.
Over lubrication also encourages the chain rollers to slide, causing flat spots, hence the rollers will not roll. Under lubrication will cause the chain to wear and break down more swiftly, result machine process down-time.
