The Bernex™ ATL Aluvap CVA (Chemical Vapor Aluminizing) coating systems are designed to deposit an aluminide diffusion layer on hot section turbine components such as turbine blades and stators.
In the past ten years, the inlet temperature for gas turbines has risen from 1100(°)C to 1230(°)C (gas plus cooling air) and the gas itself can be as hot as 1550(°)C. Due to the high operating temperatures and extreme operating conditions, surface treatments for turbine blades (as well as other hot section parts) have been developed to combat wear, fatigue, creep, corrosion and oxidation.
The equipment is especially suitable for coating internal cooling channels that cannot be treated by pack / out-of-pack or aluminium slurry processes. Indeed, the Bernex™ ATL Aluvap process is superior than other processes because it offers:
Reduced waste disposal headaches inherent in pack and out-of-pack aluminizing processes
Increased flexibility and control over active reactants, ability to add other elements for enhanced performance
Cleaning of the coating is not required after the treatment process
Superior distribution of the aluminum diffusion layer
Least surface defect density
