Pre-melting unit for hot-melt
800 lbs | Convert-A-Drum™
ITW Dynatec
The ITW Dynatec Convert-A-Drum provides an uninterrupted, metered flow of Hot Melt Adhesive. The non-heated vertical hopper (lower area) holds approximately 800 lbs. of adhesive which works its way downward through melt grids increasing the temperature in stages until it reaches the high accuracy Zenith gear pump.
Operations Overview:
A solidified drum of adhesive is loaded into the Convert-a-Drum. Pneumatic cylinders close the oven door and lid. Six heaters, which encircle the oven, heat the air surrounding the drum up to a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit. As the outside edges of the adhesive in the drum melts, the slug begins to slide downward until it finally drops out of the drum.
As it enters the hot melt unit's hopper, a rocker switch detects the presence of the slug. At thirty inches below the lid, the slug of adhesive passes through a slice/melter containing another eight heaters(8,000 watts)which speed the melt down process. After being sliced, the slug melts down completely in the premelt hopper section of the hot melt unit.
Once the slug travels past the lower limit of the rocker switch, the switch activates the flasher/horn, indicating that the oven is empty, and automatically turns off the Convert-a-Drum's oven heaters. The flashing light indicates that the system is ready for another drum of adhesive. The Convert-a-Drum's oven heaters remain off until the system is loaded with another drum of adhesive and the level controller calls for more adhesive
