Products arrive lying flat on the machine infeed conveyor, for assembly into horizontal layers or vertical rows. The required count of layers or rows is then made up by a vertical or horizontal stacker. Meantime, a flat tray blank is taken from the magazine and is laid into an indexing chain which transfers it to the product loading station. The assembled product is cross-transferred onto the pre-positioned blank, and the assembled group then indexes to the next station. During the index, a hotmelt glue pattern is applied to the blank, following which the flaps are folded upwards and held, to form the finished tray. As an option, the tray can be closed by a lid or stacking flaps.
