The UM5200/50/15 series offers a kink free optical power of 5.2 W from a 50 µm N.A. 0.22 fiber (numerical aperture of radiation from the fiber typically < 0.16) and therefore a globally unique brightness for this kind of laser. This performance makes them a valuable tool for micro material processing with exceptional power densities where the UM5200/50/15 series replaces e.g. fiber lasers and CO₂ lasers. Further important applications are the highly efficient pumping of high power fiber amplifiers, fiber lasers and solid state lasers, flexography and illumination. The unique brightness is achieved by transforming the asymmetric radiation from the laser diode into a symmetrical beam using a patented micro optics. This beam can be coupled into a fiber with a very small core and numerical aperture with a high efficiency.
