In connection with that, the conditioning of surfaces plays more and more an important role. Coating allows for realization of functions well known to glass optics, such as mirrors, antireflection coatings, filters or beam splitters for optical plastic-based systems. In addition, coatings serve to protect the surfaces against mechanical, chemical, or other environmental influences; or to improve their cleaning possibilities.
