Peelable shims are made up of a series of individual thin metal strips placed one on top of the other and glued over their entire surface to form a compact laminated block.
These individual strips can be very easily separated and removed to give the desired overall shim thickness. This procedure avoids the need for machining and adjustment associated with solid single component shims. it also replaces separate thin metal strips piled one on top of the other, thus avoiding "expansion". The quality of Althermill shims lies in the parallelism of the laminated layers and the accuracy with which the thickness can be adjusted.
