Incremental hollow shaft encoder FGH 4
Shaft-mounted device with its own bearing
These robust hollow shaft encoders extend the practical range
of attachment methods for rotary encoders. In this overhung
construction the encoder is mounted directly onto the drive
shaft and secured using only a clamp or feather key. An
adjustable torque bracket prevents the encoder rotating.
This provides new useful mounting options:
• direct attachment behind rotating parts such as fan, drive
pulleys etc.
• simple mounting, without coupling, without flange centering
• high precision in mounting can be achieved, minimizing
harmonic effects due to coupling and mounting
• the short, compact unit is easy to fit
• the shaft runs through for driving purposes, and further units
such as overspeed switch, D.C. tachos and extra encoders
can be mounted
• compensation of the relatively large axial play of the drive
shaft
• the encoder can be mounted at any convenient position on
long shafts
• particularly useful where direct mounting on the bearing plate
of the drive machine is complicated or impossible or, for
example, if a specific separation is required due to temperature
and/or other adverse conditions
• the electronics is integrated into the encoder.
• high degree of protection IP 66 for dry ambient conditions,
with Viton® axial shaft seals on request
• or for wet ambient conditions with radial shaft seals
- note max. speed!
• see page 56 for insulated encoder with ceramic bearings
