Description

Designed for high-temperature applications, the Type 1604 is a high performance Type C, Arrangement 1, API 682/ISO 21049 qualified cartridge seal. It is utilized to deal with crude oil fractionation products and hot hydrocarbons.

A stationary Iconel 718 welded metal bellows which has flexible carbon graphite secondary seals is used by the Type 1604 to handle higher shaft speeds. For effective containment, the Type 1604 uses a segmented spring-loaded carbon throttle bushing. A retained mating ring for vacuum service can be supplied.

An API Plan 62 quench (steam) is often used to support the Type 1604, as well as a steam guide used to route the steam to the seal faces. This eliminates a build-up of coke which may occur when sealing hot hydrocarbons.
