These machines are notable for a perforated feeder deck, through which a gas (generally air) flows upward. The product is conveyed on the deck by vibration, the gas providing a supporting action. The fluidised bed can be subdivided into a number of sections and operated at differing temperatures and volumetric flows. The total product surface is used for mass transfer and heat exchange. This process is therefore highly efficient and also achieves homogeneous results. The majority of bulk materials can be handled using such vibratory fluidised beds. A number of variants are possible, including versions which fulfill stringent official hygiene standards.
