During a manual polishing: to ease the grip of the sample
During an automatic polishing: to gather a number of samples in a sample holder under optimum tightening conditions.
During the polishing step the embedding permits to limit the edge effects. The choice of a resin suited to the hardness of the material to be polished will make the checking of the sample's periphery possible.
Various resins are available :
Cold resins for fast operation
Hot resins for minimum shrinkage
