Our sapphire fibers are manufactured according to the EFG technique (edge-defined, film-fed growth). They feature all of the excellent properties of the sapphire crystall, yet at the same time are very flexible. Sapphire has a very high melting point (more than 2000 °C) and is chemically almost neutral. Therefore, it can be used in extremely aggressive environments. Sapphire fibers are perfectly suited for chemical processing plants where reactions have to be monitored. Sapphire is also well suited for Er:YAG lasers. Sapphire fibers are available in diameters from 150 to 425 µm and in lengths of up to 2 m.
