In operation for over four years, the LEDtronics Slim Line SLL003-400-2IW-014M shoebox lamp has been lighting the four corners of the intersection of Pine Point Road and Island Road, on the Scugog Island, Port Perry, some 40 miles northeast of Canada's largest city of Toronto.

There is no electricity in the area, which is an Indian reserve for the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation in south-central Ontario. The shores of Lake Scugog abound with Victorian-era buildings, and the town boasts a wide variety of parks, beaches and sport fields as well as the Trans-Canada and Oak Ridges Moraine Trails and the Nonquon Wildlife Preserve.

Toronto-based architectural lighting design firm Solera installed the street light, which is powered by deep-discharge batteries charged by solar cells.

There are two similar installations located in the Township of Uxbridge, about 15 miles south of Scugog.
