Threads can be fabricated in a single pass in just seconds using a thread rolling head. In comparison with cutting or thread chasing, expensive machining time can often be saved. It is not important here whether the workpiece is to be machined when stationary or rotating. Endless threads or short threads can be rolled either in front of or behind a collar. Almost any material that has a minimum extension of about 5 percent can be rolled with a thread rolling head. Thin-walled hollow objects (pipes) can be rolled if an internal mandrel is used.

With innovations like the sensing rolling head, for instance, LMT Fette has brought further improvements to the productivity of the method: the intelligent sensing system in the ES radial rolling system automatically controls and monitors the production of the workpieces, communicating through a radio interface with the machine tool controller.
