Continuous hydraulic double piston screen changer
45 - 50 000 kg/h | CSC/DV Maag Pump Systems

The Maag Pump Systems screen changer with Integrated Diverter Valve
is based on the proven double-piston design which requires no additional
seals and uses one of the pistons for the start-up function. This design is
ideal for processes in which the start-up melt (e.g. in twin screw extruders)
or changed material has to be discharged.
On the inlet side, rheologically optimised flow channels divide and distribute
the melt stream to flow into the screen cavities at equal parts. When the
production line is started, one of the pistons closes its flow channel inside
the filter housing while the other one remains in the start-up position. In this
way, the start-up melt is directed outside the screen changer through the
housing bore, until the molten plastic has reached the required production
quality. The two pistons are then moved into their production position and
the melt is filtered.
To change the screens, each piston is moved out of the housing consecutively
by means of a hydraulic cylinder. Once the screens are exchanged,
the piston returns to its production position in the same way. A simple and
effective screen venting process prevents air from being trapped in the melt
flow. During the quick screen change procedure, the melt continues to flow
through the other piston, thus ensuring the process-constant operating
mode of the system.
