For use in passenger car engines, piston pins are formed by MAHLE using state-of-the-art multi-stage presses—in this way, innovative and complex forms can also be realized for greater load resistance. For motor racing engines subject to extreme loads, piston pins are produced from nitrided steels with a PVD coating. At the same time, chromium nitrided layers increase the protection at increasing temperatures.
