The narrowband ASE source developed by Multiwave Photonics is a highly innovative product that can replace laser sources with significant advantages in many applications, like optical pumping, optical sensing and low coherence imaging. The design of the narrowband ASE source allows the emission spectral width to be tailored at the factory from a minimum of 0.1 nm to about 30 nm, while maintaining high quantum efficiency and superior spectral density with a total output power up to 30 mW. The spectral width can be optimized for different applications: a 5 nm spectral width is useful in FBG based sensing systems; a 3 nm spectral width with Gaussian intensity profile is useful in low coherence imaging; and a 0.4 nm spectral width is useful for pumping nonlinear devices, eliminating SBS which is a limiting factor when using laser sources.
