XLPE-insulated medium voltage cables have now been used for distribution in public supply systems for about 25 years. Because of their numerous advantages they have steadily displaced the classical paper-insulated cables in many countries. Compared to paper-insulated cables the advantages are: * no migrations of mass impregnation on steep routes * lower weight, thus easier installation of cables * installation of long individual lengths ( for single-core cables), thus reduction of number of joints * use of maintenance-poor accessories Many years of experience enable nkt cables to offer tailored “cable solutions” to public utilities and industry. Cable systems for wind mill projects are for example a special offer of the medium voltage cables team in Cologne. We manufacture more than 10,000 km of MV XLPE cables a year in our Cologne plant.
