Preventing flying embers from entering air intakes is critical to ensure the reliability of fire suppression equipment. When vehicles are in the vicinity of fires, flying embers pulled into the air stream can burn holes in the air filter, allowing dirt, sand, smoke and other particles to contaminate and damage the engine -- often beyond repair. Even worse, a burning air filter can lead to a major vehicle fire, putting human life and property at risk.
Racor Moisture/Ember Separators are specifically designed to prevent flying embers from entering the engine air intake. The separators shield downstream engine air filters from embers using a combination of unique flat and crimped metal screens packaged in a heavy-duty galvanized steel frame. This multi-layered screen traps embers and allows them to burn out before passing through the pack, without creating any significant restriction to air flow.
Racor Moisture / Ember Separators are also designed to trap and drain away large volumes of water that enter the air intake from rain, mist, or by accident. This is critical to engine performance and reliability, as water entering into the air inlet can damage cylinders and lead to engine failure.
