The high-precision position encoding system is used in conveyor automation where vehicles and conveyors need to be positioned accurately. The WCS can be used in a variety of applications, such as where the coded rail is interrupted by track/position changes, or in applications with curved and circuitous tracks.
The read heads feature internal light intensity control to reliably determine position values even under difficult ambient conditions and despite dirt. RS-485, SSI, CANopen, PROFINET, EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP interfaces can be used for data transmission to the controller.
There are two models of read heads:
WCS2B
The WCS2B is characterized by a narrow fork width of 10 mm. The proximity between the emitter and receiver LEDs makes it the best choice for heavily polluted environments such as galvanizing plants, foundries and steel rolling mills. With an optional guide rail and carriage system, the WCS2B can also be used where vibration or imprecise mechanical action is unavoidable. Such tolerance considerations are common in automated crane systems.
WCS3B
The WCS3B features a relatively large fork width of 30 mm. It is ideal for monitoring overhead or floor conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems, and lower/top stations. WCS3B readers also feature LED lights and an optional seven-segment display that provides detailed diagnostic and position information.
