Filtration is a separation process allowing either the increase of the purity of the material filtered or the recovery of solid particles. The tri-dimensional fibre network allows the increase of the tortuous path encountered by the flow of the particles.
The filter medium has to combine many different properties, ranging from its filtration characteristic, chemical resistance and its mechanical strength.
Its availability and wet-ability, are also important.
