The Piezo's LEGS works straight, with no gears required or mechanical transmission, for creating a backlash-free linear motion with nanometer or even sub-nanometer resolution. A traditional electric motor typically demands multiple assembled parts such as rotor, stator, ball bearings, linear screws etc., for it to work.
With the direct drive the motor, size is significantly minimized, and precision is acquired by eliminating bulky and lashing mechanical parts. The motor can be simply set up with simple drive electronics.
The broad speed dynamics make the motor suitable for a broad range of operations. It is particularly designed to utilize the motor in move and hold applications, since there is no power draw in hold position.
