Thermocouple is basically an electric circuit made of two dissimilar metallic conductors welded on one extremity. For the principle known as Seebeck effect, whenever there's a difference of temperature between hot junction (welding point) and cold junction (other extremity) of conductors, an electromotive force is generated, depending on the metals type. To measure the temperature using a thermocouple, the temperature of cold junction must be already known, so that the electromotive force depends only on hot junction.

Type K thermocouple is made of a positive conductor Nichel-Chromium and a negative conductor Nichel-Aluminium.

This version with alumina sheath is suitable for high-temperature measurements on kilns and industrial plants up to 1250°C.
