Due to the short wavelength of UV light, illumination causes light scatter off the surface of objects, so it is possible to show scratches and defects which would be impossible to detect otherwise. This makes UV imaging an ideal solution for surface inspection and quality control of semiconductor materials. Other UV applications include forensic, pharmaceutical and biomedical imaging. Also oil contamination and leakage can be detected.
