Laser scanner array for 3D dimensional measurement of large parts
Quelltech Ltd.

The precise measurement of large objects is usually difficult, if the have free formed surfaces, hence no simple geometry.

With the Q4 Laser Scanners one can measure contactless large surfaces with a speed of up to several hundred measurement lines per second.

The object is either moved below an array of scanners or an array of scanners is moved over the object. Each Laser line generates a via the scanner a cloud of points and are consolidated eventually to a 3 -D profile of the scanned surface. The number of the used scanners in the array depends on the required resolution and the measurement range in the x-axis. Already system are in operation with a x-axis range of over 2.000 mm.

In principle the number of parallel scanners in an array is not limited. Special settings of neighboring scanners make sure that they will not influence each other.

The amount of data which is sent via Ethernet for each scanner is relatively small. This is due to the intelligent high speed FPGA pre-processing of the image data in the scanner. Therefore it is even with 4, 6 or 10 scanners necessary, to use sophisticated Fire wire or fiber networks, a simple 100 MHz Ethernet networking will be sufficient. Also one PC will be sufficient to process the data of several scanners. .

Typical applications:

measurement of wing profiles in aerospace and windmill

measurement of raw foam blocks to optimize cutting schemes

measurement of raw stone blocks to optimize cutting schemes

measurement of wood panels for planarity

inline check of laminating processes on wood panels

copying marble structures for ceramic tiles processing
