When bending sheet metal, the control of the tolerances is important. This is due to the different sheet metal qualities and its bending behavior. It is also due to the increased quality standards of the customers, who often require a 100% check and documentation.

The bending angle is measured by scanning the reflection of the laser beam to the surface of the sheet metal with the Quelltech Laser Scanner. By the method of triangulation the Laser Scanner outputs data with which the bending angle will be calculated. This system is always calibrated.

The Quelltech 3-D Laser Scanners can measure at speeds with some hundred measurements per second at resolutions in the range of some hundreds of a millimeter. A highly dynamic range of the light parameters are a specialty. Therefore the Quelltech Laser Scanner are mostly immune against variations of dark/light, glossy/matte, rough/smooth surfaces, i.e. errors due to these effects absent.

Sheet metal bending in large press brakes can be monitored and controlled as integral part of the machine controller. This will cause the productivity to be increased and the scrap rate will go down.

Parts formed by press brakes can be checked for dimensional tolerances.
The service life of the tool can be extended to its real end of life by monitoring all products tolerances.
