The RAM-MSD is a two-speed gearbox engineered by REDEX. It is suitable for use in in-line integration between a water cooled motor and a spindle.
The unit is constructed in a compact and lightweight structure, based on the updated spindle drive motor technology. It features an output torque rating of up to 3500 Nm, and a maximum input speed of 12000 rpm.
The RAM 2-Speed spindle gearbox is designed to extend the constant power range of spindle drive motors and provide:
High torque for hogging out steel or titanium. High speed for finish machining aluminum.
The RAM (High Torque) two speed gearboxes are designed for in-line integration between a water cooled motor and a spindle inside of a machine-tool RAM as shown below:
This newest generation of 2-speed gearboxes improves torque density while decreasing the outside diameter and increasing the hollow bore diameter. Furthermore, it is a kit version that eliminates redundant bearings in the design and makes the entire system operate with lower temperature, vibration and noise levels.
This compact, light-weight design matches the latest spindle drive motor technology and offers:
Hollow through bore to facilitate a draw bar and through spindle coolant
Round Housing to fit inside of RAM bore and share motor coolant supply
Remote hydraulic speed change compatible with CNC control
Quiet minimum vibration operation to match spindle requirements
Dry sump lubrication for minimum thermal expansion.
