Achromatic doublets are far superior to simple lenses because they are corrected for two color lines, specifically C(656.27nm) and F(486.13nm). Focal length is specified for the D line (589.3nm) in an air medium with parallel incident light. Air spaced achromats may be used where even greater correction is required.
