Monochromator
Rotary Precision Instruments UK
The goniometer is provided with a vertical axis rotation stage to allow the door and crystal housing unit to be spun around after withdrawal, so that the crystal housing faces away from the vessel, providing improved access to the crystal cage.
The primary stage may include a split plinth with three motorised jacks supporting the upper half, providing motorised adjustment of height, pitch and roll, without compromising the stiffness and stability of the support. Lateral translation of the goniometer, including the vacuum chamber, may be motorised, as may the yaw motion available at the interface of the goniometer and
the granite plinth.
A direct drive, using a synchronous brushless motor with 66 poles can be implemented for the Bragg rotation, instead of the DC servomotor and worm-wheel drive train. The bearing assembly and rotary feedthrough remain unchanged. This delivers true backlash-free operation; increased drive stiffness; zero following error during energy scans; and improved dynamic response, resolution and repeatability.
