A new concept from Sandvik Coromant is set to provide significant performance benefits in profile machining; the CoroTurn TR® offers a more stable clamping and improved security via a robust T-rail interface between insert and holder.
Profiling operations place extreme pressures on the tool, and conventional clamping designs often leave the insert open movement during machining which reduces component tolerance and quality.
To combat this, the T-rail design uses horizontal and vertical rails to provide a stronger support for the insert in the tool holder to reduce insert movement, leading to the production of higher quality, closer tolerance components. Further stability can also be achieved via a long insert screw which reaches deep into the holder to clamp the insert firmly in place.
The two cutting edge design utilises optimized geometries and facilitates the requirements of good chip evacuation, needed to offer more continuous, uninterrupted machining.
The CoroTurn TR® is designed for turning operations using -V (35۫) and -D (55۫) style inserts and is well suited to medium to finishing applications and the operational demands of modern multi-task machining.
