Ion chromatograph (IC)
PIA-1000
Shimadzu Europe
The Personal Ion Analyser-1000 is a portable non-suppressed ion chromatograph. The instruments consists of a solvent delivery unit, a manual sample injector, a column oven, a conductivity detector, a data processor with a floppy disk drive and a housing for elution and drain bottles in a 15 kg (33 lbs) light weight compact transportable body. The PIA-1000 is operated by either AC power supply or DC battery so that it can be installed anywhere as far as such power source is available. These features enables "On-site" analyses at sampling location, or installation at location with limited space.
The portable ion chromatograph has all its flow paths made of metal-free materials, and employs 2.0 mm I.D. semi-micro bore column. The amount of mobile phase consumed is only about 1/5 of that used by equivalent systems employing conventional (i.e., 4.6 mm I.D.) columns. For laboratory use an autosampler SIL-10Ai can be connected to the instrument and will be fully controlled by the PIA.
The datafiles are automatically stored as a compressed datafile containing the method, the chromatogram and the result files on the floppy disk. The datafiles are compatible with the Shimadzu workstation software LC Solutions and CLASS-LC10. The controller unit of the instrument includes standard methods for anion and cation analysis, data processing and reporting function via an external printer, which can be connected to the instrument. The touch screen and the graphical user interface enable easy operation. The detection limit for fluoride, as an example, is less than 10 ppb when 10 µL of sample solution is directly injected.
