Cooled flue gas sampling probe
Set FLK SIEMENS Process Instrumentation

A precise and reliant analysis of both, gas and exhaust emissions from the rotary kiln, is essential for an efficient and safe cement production and the protection of the environment.

Gas sampling systems in the kiln inlet have to work under extreme conditions, like gas temperatures up to 1400°C, very high dust loads and high concentrations of alkalis, sulphates and chlorides. Serious problems often arise by using conventional water-cooled sample systems. One major problem is the blocking of the sampling system caused by condensing flue gas, which is the result of the low gas sample temperature. Water-cooled probes have to be cleaned very often and thus increase maintenance costs significantly.

All major problems which arise with water-cooled sample systems can be avoided or minimized by using the Siemens FLK fluid/liquid cooling gas sample system. More than 150 FLK-systems are already installed worldwide. The key to the success is the utilization of a synthetic heat transfer liquid as a coolant.

The use of the heat transfer liquid allows sample gas temperatures of more than 200°C which is significantly higher than the dew-point of the flue gas. Hence, the blocking of the sampling system can be avoided due to its high operation temperature. The system comprises only six components which are ready for an easy installation. The installation can be carried out by the customer personnel without previous knowledge. Both, the commissioning of the system and the training of the maintenance personnel, can be accomplished in just five days.
