A bulldozer is a heavy piece of earthmoving equipment. It uses a front-mounted dozer blade to push soil forward and create a level surface for construction sites. A modern bulldozer is composed of a tracked chassis, protective driver cage, rear-mounted ripper claw and a variety of front-mounted blades. Some militaries even add armor plating to a standard bulldozer for more protection. Bulldozers are commonly used for road construction, water and electricity engineering, farmland leveling, port building, mining and other engineering conditions.

The tracks give them excellent ground hold and mobility through very rough terrain. Wide tracks help distribute the bulldozer's weight over a large area, which can prevent the bulldozer from sinking in sandy or muddy ground. Bulldozers have excellent ground hold and a torque divider designed to convert the engine's power into improved dragging ability. For example, the Caterpillar D9 can easily tow tanks weighing more than 70 tons. Due to these attributes, bulldozers are widely used to clear areas of obstacles, shrubbery, burnt vehicles, and remains of structures. The blade and the ripper are the primary tools of bulldozers.
