SKF CircOil circulating oil lubrication systems are used in applications where lubrication point must be cooled and cleaned by oil in addition to lubrication. Typical applications include paper machine dry end bearings, industrial fans and gear boxes. The lubrication system must be able to deliver the right amount of high quality oil to each lubrication point. Furthermore, the system has to work at high temperatures and eliminate contaminants such as abraded particles, oxidised particles, water and air bubbles.

In circulating oil lubrication systems, the lubricant flows back into the lubricant reservoir for reuse after passing through the lubrication points.

Centralized lubrication technology makes it possible to structure circulating systems as follows:

* Apportioning of a pump's output by means of hydraulic resistances (orifice tubes, adjustable metering valve distributors, flow meters) (metering valve lubrication system)
* Volumetric metering of the output by means of flow limiters or progressive feeders (SKF ProFlex progressive lubrication system)
* Volumetric metering of the output by means of multicircuit pumps e.g. multicircuit gear pumps or multicircuit piston pumps with a pump for each lubrication point (SKF MultiFlex multiline lubrication system)

The respective system is selected on the basis of:
* the operating conditions (variations in the operating temperature and thus also in the viscosity as well)
* the accuracy requirements for lubricant quantities
* the geometry (size, dimensions, symmetry) of a circulating lubrication system
* the monitoring requirements
