Pressure filters are installed behind pump and pressure-limiting valve, and in front of component parts to be protected. The pressure filter is inserted into the main flow or the bypass flow depending on the requirements. This enables different degrees of purity to be attained in the system.

Pressure filters are used in various models as disk filters or screen filters.

The use of pressure filters in the main flow in centralized lubrication systems has become the norm. The use of several filters of differing mesh sizes connected in series is typical where a lot of dirt accumulates.

By-flow filtration is used in systems with large reservoir volumes and large pumping delivery rates. Fine filtration of the main flow as a whole would mean excessively large filter dimensions.
