The new Studer S22 is a production platform and not just a machine. It focuses on medium-sized customer work pieces in large-scale production. The aim is being able to machine any work piece on the S22 by utilizing a wide range of technologies: cylindrical grinding in a production environment, form and thread grinding, high-speed grinding (HSG) with cutting speeds between 80 and 140 m/s or heavy-duty applications with 160mm wide grinding wheels are all possible.

X- and Z-axis are designed as cross slides, the work piece table is permanently bolted to the machine and the machine bed is made of GRANITAN (mineral casting). The large distance between the guideways and the sturdy frame ensure excellent stability of this machine concept. Highly dynamic axis drives, high-quality Studer guideway systems, short reaction times and optimized travel form the basis of the S22, providing the highest dynamics and precision: Cross slide X: pretensioned hydrostatics with linear motor or anti-friction guideways with ball-screws. Longitudinal slide Z: hydrostatic with linear motor or guideways with patented surface structure and ball-screws.

Thanks to its modularity, the S22 can be configured with almost all components (workhead, wheelhead, tailstock, measuring system, dressing etc.) that STUDER has ever developed and implemented for CNC production cylindrical grinding machines.

For the S22 a new standardized loading system, called ecoLoad, for parts up to a dia. of 50mm and a length of 250mm has been developed. The new integrated handling system ecoLoad fulfils all demands in quality, minimized floor space and economical use. The system has an optimal price / performance ratio.
