Taber's Multi-Finger Scratch / Mar Tester is based on the popular "Ford 5-Finger Scratch and Mar Tester" specified in automotive test requirements. It is typically used to measure the relative resistance or susceptibility of a plastic surface to scratching, marring, gouging, scraping and other similar physical damage. Test samples are mounted to a pneumatically driven, moveable sled which drives the sample at a fixed rate of speed under five (5) scratch pins. A gantry supports the five independent splined-fingers which provide a constant, vertical load on interchangeable scratch pins. Each instrument includes a set of five 1mm hemispherical scratch and 7mm hemispherical mar tools along with a nine piece weight set ranging from a 2N to 20N load (optional weights are also available).
