Active optical cable assemblies provide a cost effective high data throughput interconnect. The cables incorporate E/O and O/E conversion built into the connector shell to improve PCB real estate. The 10 Gb/s active cable assemblies operate over a data rate of 2.5 to 10 Gb/s per lane with an aggregate data rate of 40 Gb/s in each direction.
