Diamond grinding wheel THE CARBO GROUP GMBH
In the past few years a vitrified low-firing bond for diamonds has been successfully developed. At high temperatures a conversion of the diamond lattice structure into the hexagonal layered lattice of graphite (carbon) occurs. The newly developed low-firing bond retains the micro-hardness of diamond.
Vitrified bonded diamond wheels are used whenever the use of conventional silicon carbide grinding wheels is not economically feasible. Vitrified bonded diamond wheels are used for the machining of tungsten carbide, vitrified cutting tools, ceramics, glass, composite materials (tungsten carbide/steel); sprayed-on alloys, special materials, hard materials, and PCD reversible cutting discs.
Work with vitrified bonded diamond wheels should always be carried out as a wet grind. Further prerequisites for the use of vitrified diamond abrasives are:
- Suitable material (carbon free)
- Wet grinding
- Stable machine conditions
- Suitable dressing tools
- After chucking, the wheels must be aligned and balanced using a dial indicator
