The Imaging Source USB video adapters are used to digitize analog video signals. These adapters are used in machine vision applications and thus the digital video signal remains uncompressed. Additionally, to avoid any unnecessary data traffic, The Imaging Source USB video adapters do not digitize audio signals.
Although digital cameras with FireWire, USB and GigE interfaces dominate new industrial inspection applications, a very large number of legacy applications with analog video streams are still in operation. In addition to industrial applications, these include fingerprint sensors, ultrasonic and X-ray devices, dental equipment, endoscopic equipment and other devices that output analog video signals. Often analog video signals are also preferred for projects, in which long low-priced cables are required. This is typically the case for applications such as sewer inspection, traffic control and security applications.
Usually, these analog video signals need to be processed by a computer. If this computer has to be a laptop, PCI bus frame grabbers can rarely be used for the digitization of the video signals. For this case, The Imaging Source has developed a number of USB video adapters.
