On-line sulfur analyzer (H2S) for liquid hydrocarbon Thermo Scientific Process Systems
SOLA II
The field-proven Thermo Scientific SOLA II eliminates labor-intensive laboratory sampling by providing online analysis for continuous quality control of total sulfur content in liquid hydrocarbon and gaseous process streams. Fully-automated sample preparation negates the need to load vials, syringes or sample cups. The system is equipped with an on-board statistical analyzer that verifies the validity of each analysis. Full scale measurement ranges are from 0-5 ppm/wt to 0-9000 ppm/wt with detection limits as low as 0.25 ppm. The SOLA II is an online adaptation of the ASTM Method D5453 “Determination of Total Sulfur in Light Hydrocarbons, Motor Fuels and Oils by Ultraviolet Fluorescence” and the ISO Method 20846 “Petroleum Products – Determination of Sulfur Content of Automotive Fuels – Ultraviolet Fluorescence Method” and regularly demonstrates excellent agreement with total sulfur measurement methods, including ASTM D5453, ISO Method 20846, lead acetate colorimetry, and ASTM D2622. The SOLA II is comprised of a sample injection valve, a carrier gas flow control system, a mixing chamber, a Pyrolyzer, an optional dryer and a pulsed ultraviolet fluorescence (PUVF) detector. The SOLA II has a number of applications, including detection of sulfur to ensure diesel and gasoline are in compliance with clean fuel regulations, catalyst protection by controlling the sulfur level of the hydrocarbon feed into the reactor catalyst, monitoring the sulfur content of the flare gas to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and a dual calibration/dual stream model that enables two streams of radically different sulfur concentrations to be measured by a single analyzer.
