Description

Pyromex™ is an oxidized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber with nonflammable and non-melting characteristics, and is widely used in welding blankets, fleece insulation and carbon brake applications. As Pyromex™ is produced without additional bromine or halide compounds, it is ideal for flame-resistance requirements while meeting environmental regulations. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) of Pyromex™ is 50–60, which is much higher than other organic flame-resistant fibers. Pyromex™ can be supplied as a filament tow with 312,000 filaments or as a staple fiber that is crimped and cut to specified cut lengths. The Pyromex™ product range Filament tow: 312,000 Crimped staple fiber: 51 mm, 65 mm, 75 mm, 102 mm The Pyromex™ production process The process begins with a high-quality polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as a precursor fiber, specifically engineered for oxidized PAN fibers. The PAN precursor is stretched and tensioned to optimize the molecular and structural orientation, then exposed to heated air, turning it into an oxidized polyacrylonitrile fiber (OPF). Throughout the process, the quality control of the PAN precursor is monitored online, to ensure process continuity and efficiency. The benefits of Pyromex™ Pyromex™ is ideal for aerospace applications, particularly for safety clothing and fire protection. Featuring superior chemical purity and aerospace-grade production standards, Pyromex™ does not melt, drip or support flame. It can also act as a carbon electrode material, by using Pyromex™ as the raw material for carbonizing after papermaking or felt processing.
