Description

SURFSCAN CVT820 is applied mostly in the metal and non-metallic strip production in cold-rolling mills to monitor the strip surface defects by CCD camera and the control unit. This device helps to improve the production quality and eliminate or minimize the wastage. Principle of the devices: The SURFSCAN surface inspection device is based on computer analysis of the metal surface which is inspected by digital cameras. The metal surface is illuminated by high output lights based on LED technology. The illuminated surface is than scanned by line scan cameras. These types of cameras have only one row of light sensitive elements. The whole image is created by the surface movement. The advantage of line scan cameras is the speed they achieve. SURFSCAN incorporates multiple dual sensitivity line scan cameras with up to 5136 pixel resolution, with up to 70MHz line frequency and 12 bit data width. The image is analyzed in steps and in multiple resolutions. The overall quality of the surface is evaluated according to preset criteria or by criteria required by customer. Further, any local defects, which create surface inhomogeneity, are also detected. These defects are for instance dents, scratches, pits, etc. Local defects are further analyzed. For each flaw a number of features is determined. Time data, defect location and possible periodicity are also taken into account. These features are used to describe the defect in numerical way which can be recognized by a classifier. SURFSCAN is a system rather than device.
