The Vanguard S1 hollow spindle lathes are designed to meet the demanding requirements of today's oil industry. They are used primarily for machining and threading the ends of oil country tubulars, like drill pipe and casing connectors. These lathes feature a wide range of inch, metric, module, and diametral thread pitches to meet the needs of the energy industry. They are also used for turning external cylindrical surfaces, boring, or machining taper holes. They feature a large spindle bore with front and rear mounted power scroll chucks to accomodate large pieces of pipe. The bed is a single piece, high-grade alloy casting for rigidity and stability. The extra wide bed is fully supported to the floor and features replacable, hardened and precision ground steel ways. These lathes are designed for maximum performance in heavy production operations.
