The 461400 solid state voltage regulator is designed for charging 12 V batteries. It will accept input voltages of up to 80 volts dc and will regulate the output voltage so as not to exceed about 14 volts. The electronic circuit board is enclosed in a weather resistant die cast aluminum housing.
The type of voltage regulation circuit is a zener-regulated series Darlington transistor, in which excess power is dissipated as heat.
In typical operation, once the battery is fully charged, the regulator serves to limit the maximum applied voltage. In this mode of operation even a high voltage drop at low current produces very little heat.
Our 461400 12V Voltage Regulator can be used with any of our permanent magnet DC generators as long as the input and output voltage adhere to the operating envelope of the Voltage Regulator (see specifications below). It can also be used with our Human Power Generator that charges between 3-5 amperes.
If you are using a Bike Power Generator, you would need to use the Flexcharge Charge Controller see www.flexcharge.com and the NC25A/12. The input current from the Bike Power Generator exceeds what the 461400 Voltage Regulator can absorb.
