Ball Valves are recommended as the best method of shutting off gas supplies. They are leak free and stay that way without maintenance for many years. Additionally the position of the lever makes it easy to see whether the valve is open or closed.

Ball Valves for Oxygen for working pressures up to 40 bar (580.1 psi) are safe against ignition; they have been tested at the Federal Test House in Germany (BAM) and approved for this purpose.
